Macker
Macker [ˈmakɐ] mostly means cis men who exhibit toxic masculine “macker-like” behaviors that consciously or unconsciously maintain and exploit their position of power and privilege in our patriarchally structured society. That Macker can macker around is thus part of a condition that we want to overcome, but that currently still holds.
Mackerfrei
So when we say macker-free, we don’t mean a “male-free” campus. Rather, we are concerned with the structural change of inequalities and power relations. University does not take place in a vacuum. These relations prevail on our campus because they prevail in this society: sexism, misogyny, queerphobia, and discrimination against trans*, inter*, and/or non-binary people.
We want a university that does not allow assaultive sexists in positions of power.
We want a university where sexist or otherwise discriminatory behavior is not tolerated.
We want a university where this kind of behavior is named and
We want a university where people who experience sexualized violence, assault or discrimination are supported to the best of their ability.
We want a university that thinks first of those affected and last of all of its reputation.
We want a university that critically reflects on blind spots and proactively makes structures more inclusive and less discriminatory.
We want a university where women, lesbians, trans*, inter* and/or non-binary people can move safely and freely.
We have to take responsibility for this together.
Otherwise the university is what? Exactly, nothing.
